Training row starts today! From Sri Lanka to Tanzania
Saturday February 12, 2022 - Galle, Sri Lanka
After having spent 2020 back at his home in Seattle, USA, waiting for the Covid-19 pandemic to pass, Dimitri returned to Kampala, Uganda in March 2021 where he started kayaking the western shore of Lake Victoria towards Tanzania. He then cycled through Tanzania, Burundi and Malawi, and while on his route, he was able to kayak the length of lake Tanganyika and with his wife Gulnara Kieffer the length of lake Malawi. He last stopped in Mangochi, in southern Malawi where he plans to return in the second half of 2022 and cycled his way to Namibia where he will start his row across the Atlantic Ocean. Once he reaches Brazil, he will cycle his way back to Anchorage, Alaska in order to complete this human-powered circumnavigation of the globe.
But for now, Dimitri is taking a break from Nexus Expedition, to train and get proper sea legs with fellow human-powered circumnavigator-in-progress Latvian Kārlis Bardelis (@Boredofborders.com).
Starting Feb 12th 2022, together they are going to row from Sri Lanka to Tanzania, across the Indian Ocean.
